PLEASE do NOT apply for this position unless you: are an existing advisor or financial planner for a product house, or an existing independent advisor; have passed your regulatory exams with FSCA, i.e. RE5, and are in possession of your certificate; have attained your class of business accreditation and have a full qualification i.e. NQF5 wealth management, CFP, BCOM, etc. with a minimum of 120 credits; have more than 3 years experience and an existing client base; do not have a restraint of trade with your current employer.

Role Summary

LOCATION: Strictly Cape Town with the ability to travel to see clients as may be applicable. The applicant must already be a resident of the Mother City or be willing to relocate to the Western Cape.

THE WEALTH MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT is the principal contact with the client, primarily high net worth and targeted individuals and families. This individual will have a broad and deep understanding of sophisticated wealth management practices and investment strategies. The ideal candidate will have extensive impact/mission related investing expertise and a solid knowledge of financial planning principles.

The Wealth Management Consultant is responsible for maintaining the ongoing relationships and leading in the development of new client relationships. Duties include managing the delivery of wealth management services to the client. This will involve maintaining regular communication with the client, and working in consultation with the client’s other advisors as may be applicable.

In addition, this position will require coordination with client support personnel, including analysts and administrators in delivering investment management, tax, financial planning, and other pertinent financial services.

Your Role:

Essential Functions

  • Understands the principles of sales( hunting and farming ) and is a strong influencer with individuals with the ability to grow and leverage networks
  • Develops leads and referrals from current clients, referred and new opportunities and outside contacts through a defined sales process and pipeline management
  • Seeks to increase current accounts through additions to Assets Under Management (AUM) as well as upselling and cross-selling related products and services
  • Offer value-added fee-based services
  • Participate in sales meetings with prospective clients
  • Represents house views, practice philosophy and lifestyle financial planning process to colleagues, clients and prospects in person, or by written proposals and or commentaries
  • Is professional in all aspects of engagement internally and externally and walks the talk of the brand promise.

Client Service

  • Seeks to establish a level of trust and confidence with client so that any financial issue can be addressed and solutions offered.
  • Evaluate and discuss options to assist clients to meet their financial and lifestyle goals as may be applicable.
  • Extensive communication with clients and their advisors during and post-sale reviews.
  • Ability to discuss investment performance, economic and market trends
  • Presentations to clients on financial and tax planning options and opportunities
  • Direct consultation with attorneys, accountants and other advisors on financial, tax and estate planning
  • Client meeting planning, facilitation and presentation.
  • Develop and/or deliver private wealth education sessions to clients and staff.

Financial Planning

  • Develop a knowledge of the client’s entire financial and family situation and be able to
    structure goals, based on investment and financial plan observing both the protection of wealth
    and creation of wealth principles
  • Follow best practice Rockfin Houseview in relation to financial planning processes
  • Ability to discuss estate planning, retirement planning, investment planning, tax planning and work with internal and external resources to meet planning goals of the client.

Investment Planning

  • Ability to establish client investment objectives including risk tolerance, asset allocation, and cash requirements
  • Develops an investment policy statement (IPS) with each client based on their goals, objectives and risk tolerance. Annually reviews IPS with client.
  • Implementation of investment plans
  • Translate investment policy to individual investment objectives
  • Monitor manager performance versus benchmarks and develops insights for clients regarding key contributors and detractors
  • Monitor asset allocation per risk profiling recommendations and per the client service level mandate agreement quarterly basis relative to policy and goals; evaluates needs
  • Reviews portfolio issues (i.e., taxes, liquidity events, capital calls, etc.) quarterly
  • Present alternative investment ideas to clients
  • Manage investment transition for new clients
  • Collaborates with and is up to date with the Investment Management & Research Team around practice model portfolios and industry trends regarding investment strategy and client portfolio structure including, but not limited to, bringing impact/mission-related investing ideas to the Manager/Research team via the practice principal which may include and helping to engage in due diligence on those ideas.
  • Provide recommendations to individuals and family trusts and or foundations enabling them to fulfil their goals related to mission/impact investing
    Evaluate large holdings for performance relative to the overall portfolio and plan strategies for diversification

Administration and Compliance

  • The wealth management consultant will have strong administrative skills and orientation
  • Works closely with the back office and other team members, in particular, the client support personnel.
  • Follows defined administrative processes.
  • Is familiar with the FAIS Act, fit and proper requirements and is compliant in all functions and tasks 100% of the time.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a related field (Investments, Finance, Law, Accounting/Tax, Economics, Business Administration) and/or 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one NQF Wealth Management , CFP, CPA, CFA or CIMA certification; extensive knowledge of certifications not earned
